Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease, inflammatory type of arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is also classified as an autoimmune disease because it can affect multiple other organs of the body; rheumatoid arthritis is referred to as a systemic illness and is sometimes called rheumatoid disease.
Rheumatoid arthritis can be a very painful condition. This results from the immune system attacking the body's joints, causing inflammation and pain. In certain instances, damage is done to internal organs by the immune system as well. Professionals are unsure why the immune system reacts in this manner, nor do they know how to rid of the disease.
Arthritis is a common term for an illness that covers a broad spectrum that comprises more than one hundred illnesses. The two most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common, while rheumatoid arthritis is the second most common. Rheumatoid arthritis, however, is the most severe form of arthritis.
