Since the shingles disease is only developed in people who previously had chickenpox, it would make perfect sense to have the chickenpox vaccine in an attempt to prevent this condition. In North America children are usually vaccinated against chickenpox at an early age. This helps to greatly decrease their chances of developing chickenpox and subsequently developing shingles.
It is recommended that a follow up vaccination for varicella would be beneficial in children and adults who had only one dose. Also for adults at a high risk for shingle exposure or transmission and who have not had a vaccine or chickenpox should receive special attention.
Healthcare workers are one such adult group which is very susceptible to the risk and transmittal of shingles. They are in the most risky area as they are exposed to people with these conditions on a daily basis. They should be diligent and take the chickenpox vaccination for their own good.
There is another group of people who work or live in an institution who fall in the high risk category for getting chickenpox and shingles. They also need to take the shot for chickenpox. It may be important for the people staying in correctional institutions to take varicella vaccination also. They have to keep in touch with individuals with different kinds of health problems and have a lot of risk. Many types of vaccinations are taken by the people who travel internationally as they come in touch with all kinds of infections which also include chickenpox. As a matter of fact any person who comes close to a lot of people like teachers, daycare workers, military personal etc are advised to take the chicken pox vaccination.
Women who belong to the age of bearing child but are not pregnant should take chickenpox vaccination. It is important to keep track of all that all vaccinations are taken as the parasite that is the reason for chickenpox can also give you shingles.
