Neck pain may feel like a "kink," stiffness, or severe pain. An injury to the neck is most often caused by certain types of trauma. Injuries to the neck can be minor or very serious, especially when there is damage to the spinal cord. Pain in the neck can also be caused by overuse of muscles or nerves in the neck. Arthritis can also cause pain in the neck. Pain in the neck caused by the infection and tumors are rare. eck movement may be limited, usually more to one side than the other. Neck pain refers to pain anywhere from the area at the base of the skull into the shoulders. Common injuries include neck spasms, strains, stingers, and fractures.
The most frequent causes of neck injuries include car or motorcycle accidents, sports injuries, whiplash of rides. Accidents are the leading causes of injury to the neck. Sudden jerks of the head and just causes whiplash injuries. Whiplash is a soft tissue injury where the neck and head are suddenly thrown forward and back again at the time of impact (which is almost always a car accident). The impact flexes the head and neck beyond their normal range of movement. Whiplash may also occur in sports accidents or when a child under 5 years is violently shaken (shaken baby syndrome). Cou different problems require different treatments.
Treatment depends on the cause, but may include applying ice, taking pain relievers, getting physical therapy or wearing a cervical collar. Neck spasms and strains are often treated with heat, ice, muscle relaxants, and physical therapy.Stingers usually get better on their own. They usually last a few minutes, but may take several days or weeks to heal. Physical therapy may be needed to stretch and strengthen the muscles. Neck fracture treatment depends on the seriousness of the injury. A compression fracture, with the bones pushed into each other, can sometimes be treated by wearing a neck collar for 6 to 8 weeks.

3. A cervical collar and perhaps antidepressants also helpful.
4. Always wear your seat belt when riding in a car.
5. Avoid riding motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles.
6. Do not drink when driving, swimming, or diving.
7. Avoid moving your neck up or down a lot.
8. Avoid reaching overhead with your arms and too far from your body.
