Medicinal Properties of Turmeric the Golden Herb

Turmeric (curcuma longa), is a widely grown perennial flowering plant. It has been grown in China and India for thousands of years. The root of the plant which is golden yellow in color has wide ranging medicinal properties. It is powdered and used for food preparations in India, for its flavor and as a food coloring.

Turmeric is helpful in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, which is an auto immune disease. It reduces the pain, swelling and inflammation of the joints.

It is used to treat several skin diseases. Turmeric is used to fight bowel problems, digestive disorders. It is also used as a treatment for hyper acidity and indigestion.

Turmeric is used as an antiseptic in the treatment of cuts and burns. It is used for inhibiting hair growth and as a hair remover by women in India

It is used in the preparation of cosmetics. Turmeric paste is used by women in India for glowing skin. Apply the paste mixed in water to your face. Wash if off after one hour for glowing skin.

It is used for treatment of skin diseases like eczema. It is also used to treat insect bites and even for snakebites. It is used to drive away ants.

It is said to prevent blood clots and hence reduce the chances of heart attack and stroke. It is also used to treat liver disorders. It is also used as blood purifier. 

Curcumine the active ingredient of turmeric is an anti oxidant and is used as an antihistamine against allergies.
