What are genetic disorders?
A genetic disorder is an illness caused by abnormalities in genes or chromosomes. While some diseases, such as cancer, are due in part to genetic disorders, they can also be caused by environmental factors. Most disorders are quite rare and affect one person in every several thousands or millions. Some types of recessive gene disorder confer an advantage in the heterozygous state in certain environments.
Common Genetic Diseases
Angelman syndrome
Angelman Syndrome is a rare disorder, having neuro-genetic causes. The syndrome was first described in 1965 by Dr. Angelman. This syndrome can be described by an intellectual and evolutional delay, difficulty to speak, sleep problems, hand, laughter or just smiling and a happy appearance.
Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disorder which can affect the entire body, leading to gradual disability and death. The most common symptoms are difficulty breathing and not enough enzyme production in the pancreas. Low immune system and dense mucous production lead to frequent lung infections, which are treated, but not always cured, sometimes by intravenous and oral antibiotics.
Angelman syndrome
The Angelman synthesis symptom is affects the nervous system the complex gene to be chaotic. Angelman Syndrome is a classic example of genetic imprinting caused by deletion or inactivation of critical genes on maternally inherited chromosomes. This gene is the existence in the mother and the father chromosome, but differently in methylation style. Other causes include uniparental disomy, translocation, or single gene mutation in that region.
Haemophilia
Hemophilia is a rare genetic bleeding disorder that almost always occurs in males. A person has hemophilia when he or she inherits problems with certain blood-clotting factors, making them unable to work properly. Blood-clotting factors are needed to help stop bleeding after a cut or injury and to prevent spontaneous bleeding.
