Endometrial receptivity was morphologically documented in this study. The solid tooth shaped projections of non-pregnant uterus change into mucin coated cup-shaped caruncles. Conco mitant to these changes blastocysts elongates. Within elongated blastocysts cotyledons develop which fix into caruncles to form the placenta
The unique feature presented in this paper is recognition of non-self (foetus) by self (endometrium). We present here the following observations"
1. The caruncles in non-pregnant uterine horns consist of solid projection arranged in rows. They are red and upright ville-like. No Corpus Luteum Haemorrhagicum (CLH) was present.
2. In the presence of CLH these caruncles change in form, colour and structure. They are cup-shaped , mucin coated, whitish in colour and give an impression as if a whitish cover or membrane overwrap them.
3. In the meantime blastocyst elongates and covers the whole uterine horn. Within the blastocysts or now we can call it an elongated ballon shaped foetus floating over hypertrophied caruncles. Within this developing foetus sac small round, red shaped ball develop and it is called cotyledons. These cotyledons further fix themselves into cup-shaped caruncles. The formation of placentomes begins both within foetal membrances and endometruim cover over cotyledons and caruncles respectively, before union. Thus an indirect attachment of cotyledons and caruncles occurs which is separated by different membranous coverings described.
The mechanism of such attachment and a system of manifold protective covers prevent direct contact of foetus and maternal tissues. The minute details of attachments are supported by histological nuclear unions too. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first finding of the kind being published in literature
