Our feet are the secondary most important part of our bodies. As our feet take the entire weight of the body they must be taken care of properly. Sometimes we are unable to see that our feet get the necessary care due to factors beyond our control. Internal factors like plantar fasciitis, tarsal tunnel syndrome and even osteoarthritis can lead to a condition that is known as arch foot pain

Many of us will experience arch foot pain as a burning sensation under the long arch of our foot. The causes of arch foot pain can be running, walking on hard surfaces, also being on our feet all day can also lead to arch foot pain. The other contributing factor is shoes that do not provide adequate support to the foot and ankle region.

The other causes of arch foot pain are of a medical condition. They are plantar fasciitis which is the straining of the ligament that provides support to the arch. The other is tarsal tunnel syndrome which is a pinched nerve at the ankle. This pinching sends pain towards the arch foot region.

You can also get arch foot pain from flat foot or a pronated foot. The latter two conditions are caused by structural imbalances in the feet. You can also get arch foot pain from osteoarthritis. This is arthritis in the bones and joints in the midfoot region. This osteoarthritis is what causes arch foot pain.

There are some ways that you can treat arch foot pain. Arch foot pain can be treated by ice at the beginning of the pain to reduce the amount of swelling that has been caused. Later on anti inflammatory gels and heat applications may be used. Any activity that puts a strain on the arch foot muscles should be avoided. Therefore if your work necessitates that you should be standing on your feet all day, then you should see if you can do your work seated.

Activities like running and walking should be modified. You might want to consider taking up other activities like swimming or cycling until your arch foot pain goes away. The wearing of supportive shoes is also ideal in the treatment of arch foot pain.

To help cure you of arch foot pain you could consult with a podiatrist. Early treatment can alleviate any suffering that you will have to undergo. You will be given advice about your footwear, stretching exercise that you can try for your calf muscles and the arch of the foot if the symptoms of arch foot pain are mild. Your podiatrist may recommend that you wear foot orthotics. By talking with a podiatrist you can save yourself a lot of the agony of untreated arch foot pain.
